Chapter 23

A New Ship Ashore

It must have been around high noon when we all got word that a new ship was going to be docking on Tiki Island. Captain Barrix told us to be on our best behaviors when the ship was to land in an hour’s time. I however felt like I was being treated as a child. I had a funny feeling that John new more about the ship that was coming then he was telling. I shrugged the feeling aside for now and was on my way back to the girls tiki hut to change into my swim suite.

When I came out again with a bucket in my hands that I was going to use to find some seashells with. I asked Hasper if she wanted to come along but she said she had other plans. I began to hum a little tune and headed for the beach. As I began to look around the sand, I found a pretty shiny rock that was near the water. It was smooth and the color of the rock was a bight sea green. I put it in my bucket and continued along. Walking away from the ship of ours.

I did not see anyone from my group out playing around anywhere. Still I did not give it much thought. My back turned away from the docking bay, I guess I did not want to be present of when this new ship was going to arrive.

After picking up about 3 shells each one a different color and shape. I could hear what sounded like solar engines up in the sky. I did not bother to look back. I don’t know what was with me today? Normally I would have been feeling a bit more excited to see a new ship. Especially if it was someone on our ship new about. But today I was feeling bothered by the whole fact that a new ship was coming. Well more like here now. I no longer heard the engines running. So I assumed the ship was now docked.

Then all of a sudden I felt a wave of sadness hit me out of nowhere. My whole body stiffened and began to tense up. There was not just a feeling of sadness in the air. But a feeling of pure dread, but the moment it came it vanished. I was not sure if the feeling I felt was just me being paranoid or something that had a much deeper meaning to it?

After a few seconds went by I began to calm down. I then took a few steps and felt a bit better. I found another shell it was a pretty pink one this time. I felt warm inside and thought of Hasper’s favorite color. The pink shell would be a nice gift for her indeed. Of course I could not forget everyone else on the ship either. That was when I had the idea that I would give shells to everyone. Although I did not know everyone’s favorite color. I just went with the idea of what looked best with them.

After picking up a whole mess of seashells. I was ready to head back to the tiki huts. I wanted to wait till tonight’s dance party we would have on the ship.

On my way back I saw the new ships sails but not much else of it for it was behind The Barrix Honor. I knew it would be weird if I did not come back soon. But then something in the shallows of the waves got my attention for a brief moment. It must have been another shiny stone. But I already had picked up one. Yet I found myself already reaching for it. When I picked it up and got a better look at it. The smooth shiny stone was truly beautiful. Not only that but when it reflect in the light from the sun. It sparkled and had multiple colors in it. Like a rainbow, I had never seen such a stone before like this. I put it in the bucket. I was about to get up from where I knelt down but then felt like someone was right in front of me and staring at me.

I was about to give a glare at the unfamiliar person when I was taken aback by their appearance. Standing there before me was a tall and very handsome young man. He must have been about 6 feet tall. With dark tanned skin and short dark wavy hair. But his eyes are what really got me off guard. Both eyes two color split down the middle of the iris. On the right side of both eyes was a deep blue color and on the left a deep red color. This could only mean one thing when a being had eyes like this. He was a full blooded Terrain.

His eyes were staring straight at me, as I was to him. For some odd reason I began to feel my heart beat quicken while I was looking at him. I did not know why? I mean this young Terrain was someone who I just ran into for the first time ever. Why was my heart beating to fast? And why the heck were my hands starting to feel sweaty around the handle of the bucket I was holding? And why did my stomach start to feel all achy? What was going on with me?

The Terrain was the first to break the long silence. He cleared his throat, and then began to speak to me. “Uh hi there. Sorry if I startled you, I was just taking a short walk to see the sea. When I saw you picking up shells a few minutes ago.”

He sounded a bit shy the way he was talking to me. I then realized I had not replied back to him yet. “I-it’s okay.” Was all I could seem to say at the moment?

I then found myself feeling very shy and turned my head away from his gaze. It was hard to look at him feeling this way and all. He spoke up once more this time greeting me. “Oh my bad I did not state who I am, or with. My name is Norrick Walker. I am with the ship that had just landed here. My older brother is the captain of The Silver Knight. We are here to meet up with the Barrix Honor and its crew.”

I finally got enough courage to look him in the eye. “It’s nice to meet you N-Norrick. I-I am Karin Sohma but everyone calls me Rin. I am w-with the Barrix Honor’s crew.” I finally got to say. Man it was hard talking to him. Only because I was feeling very shy towards Norrick.

“It’s very nice to meet you too…Rin.” Norrick gave a small smile. He then took out a pocket watch and looked at the time. He made a small gasp and put it away. “Sorry that my time has run out. I need to get back to the ship.”

I then found myself walking next to him. I took a small glance and our eyes met. I quickly looked away. Now I knew something was wrong with me. Norrick must have thought I was strange. I then took a deep breath and turned to speak to him.

“Ah Norrick, right? I-I am going to head back too. I- I mean to the tiki huts my friends and I are staying in.” I found myself stuttering a bit.

“No worries…Rin.” Said Norrick. “I suppose ill meet up with you and your ship mates later on.” He smiled kindly at me and I gave a nod with my head.

The next few moments passed by so very fast. I had ran all the way back to the huts. And found myself out of breath. My heart was still pounding in my chest. But not because I had ran a little. It was because of my encounter with Norrick Walker. I had never met someone who could make my heart beat so much. Why would something like this happen at first sight? It made no sense to me at all. I then heard excited voices coming from the other hut.

It was Jim, Riku, and Lee’s laughter. I then heard Jim speaking up.

“Oh man I can’t wait to see Rebekah at the party. I wonder what dress she is going to wear.” Said Jim full of joy.

Lee then chimed in, “I know Karin will look her best. No matter what.”

“As long as Sakura does not wear high heels I don’t have to worry about her getting hurt when dancing.” Said Riku.

I could not help but grin at that line. My guy friends were such goof balls. But that was when it hit me. None of the other girls were even in the tiki hut. If they are not here, then that means they are on the ship getting ready without me? I thought to myself.

“Whhhaaa!” I shouted.

I was late into getting ready myself what a fool I was. I put the shells and rocks that I found into my bag and ran out of the hut as fast as I could.

I am so going to get yelled at by my sister! I thought to myself. I ran as fast as I could go and got to the ship in no time. I ran all the way down below to the room I sheared with some of the others. When I opened the door I gave Sakura a scare.

“Eek! R-Rin-chan you scared me.” Said Sakura.

“Sorry. Don’t have time to chat or scare others. I must look my best for the dance party!” I told her.

She looked a bit confused as to why I would say that. She then gasped and looked at me with a curios look. “Is it a boy?” she asked boldly.

I froze in my tracks. I then replied calmly to her. “Why would it be that? I just want to look nice for tonight. Is that so bad Sakura?”

“Well no…I just thought it might be one of the other guys on the new ship. The captain and his first mate will be coming along. As far as I know that’s all who is coming over.” Explained Sakura.

“Oh um that should be fine.” I said I then grabbed my blue dress. I had only worn it one other time. And it was a good dress for formal parties.

After changing and getting my hair and makeup done. I felt like I was good to go. I then grabbed my bag and fallowed Sakura out and up to the deck. That was where the party would take place. Sakura had on a knee length white dress, with purple trimming. And her hair was up in a ponytail and curled at the ends.

I was pretty sure Riku her boyfriend was going to be happy of how pretty she looked for the evening. When the two of us walked on deck. Only the girls where on bored. I suspected that the guys would be up here any time now. Yet even though I was thinking that the others would come soon. I was wondering if Norrick would be with his brother at all? Wait what? Why was Norrick popping into my mind like that? Did I really want to see him? Or was it me thinking I want him to look at me? My mind was a scattered mess right now.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when Hasper called my name. “Rin there you are. Its about time I found you.” She said as she stood in front of me. I looked up at her. Hasper looked stunning tonight. The way she had her hair down and the sparkily red dress she had on was amazing too.

I said hi to here very fast and then tried peeking over her to see if the boys had come yet. She noticed this and asked, “What are you doing Rin?”

Of course I could never hide anything from Hasper. I then blurted out. “Are they coming or not? I want to see him!” I then put my hands over my mouth at what I had just said.

“Him? Who’s him?” said Hasper. She then got the oooh that’s it look. She could not help but smile. “Well, well it seems my little sister has a crush on someone.” Hasper said it loud enough for the other girls to hear it.

“What? N-no, why would you say t-th-that?!” I said stuttering.

“Oh come on Rin your cheeks are even redder than normal. So it has to be a guy.” Said Hasper as she put a hand on her hip.

I then saw all of our other friends staring at me. I felt so out of place. How did this happen so fast? What was I going to do now?
