Literature Text

This is a side story of Karin and Hasper's life on their home world. Before the story of JOTH fac-fiction my friend :iconthejourneyoftheheart: is working on. Just so anyone who reads this it wont have any spoilers of her story in future. This story is fan-fiction as well. And is somewhat inspiration based off of Ireland life style. The world is called Inishmaan (meaning middle island.) All rights to information I may find to use for this story belong to the original persons. And note this is a fan fiction that I am writing for fun. The only original characters that belong to me are Karin Moore, Tom and Estel Moore, Hasper and Harvey Stone. And any other character that I make up for the side story.

My Life in Newport
Chapter 5
A Nightmare

Karin Sohma-Moore was over for a sleep over at her cousin's house Hasper Stone. The young child was distracted by the television being on playing a funny cartoon. She giggled as she watched the characters play tricks on one anther. But then Harvey tried to call her over. But she was not listening or for that matter paying attention. Then her uncle got an idea since it was the month of October and another Halloween would be upon them he'd scare his little niece for the fun of it.

The next thing Rin knew was the lights began to switch on and off she gasped. She then shrieked with fear when she saw the channels change on there own and heard strange growls come from behind her when the room became dark. Rin then began to cry and cower in fear. She huddled into a little ball as she began to cry very loudly. That was when Colette Stone, Harvey's wife came in and saw what Harvey had just started.

"Harvey Stone! Just look what you have done? Shes only a lass." Colette scolded her husband. She picked up the crying child and Rin began to calm down when she saw the lights came back on.

"Uncail Harvey is a big meany! Just like the Nightmares." She said sticking her tough out at him. As Colette put her down seeing she had stopped her crying.

"Oh am I now? As bad as the Nightmares you say lassie. Better watch out those dark monsters will eat ye right up." He said moving his hands forward and began to tickle his niece in the belly.

Colette sighed and went back to the kitchen to finish dinner. Hasper came down stairs and saw her cousin had stopped crying finally. As she watched her father and the little child play she felt a warm sensation in her heart. This was something new. Maybe it was because she was glad to see her little cousin no longer crying and her child like father not trying to scare her anymore.

"What are you two up too?" She asked as she came all the way down from the stair case this time.

"Hass-sissy come play with me. Uncail Harvey is a Nightmare and trying to eat up my good dreams. Save me." She called over.

"Don't tell on me." Harvey said pretending to run away as he tip toed near the kitchen. But it was to late Hasper had caught him by the back of his shirt.

"Hold it right there athair. Where do you think your going? You have to give Rin her good dreams back or she can't sleep well tonight." She gave her father the same look her mother offtin gave him. It was related to one fairy tale of old that if a Nightmare had so happen to take away a child's good dreams. But then was destroyed by light the child's good dreams would return to them once more. But in this case since her father was not a real Nightmare it would be best to just play along for now for him to hand them over nicely.

"That's right Uncail Harvey please give back all my good dreams. I don't want to be alone in the dark without them." Rin had a look of innocence in her eyes.

Harvey knew better and better play along the way the clann wanted him too. "Alright." He said putting his hands up then pretending to grab something out of thin air. "Here you are lassie your good dreams are all yours again I surrender to the great light."

"Yay we win!" Rin said with excitement as she hopped around as if she really had gotten all her good dreams back once more.

Hasper and Harvey smiled at Rin and just then Colette came back in the living room and asked her daughter to help set the table.

"Yes mamai I'll help." Hasper said going to the kitchen. She came back with the silverware for four people.

Rin saw Hasper setting the table and asked if she could help. "Can I Le do thoil Hasper?" she asked looking up at her cousin.

"Go raihb maith agat Rin." She said with a smile.

Rin took the other half of the silverware and placed it on the other end of the table where she sat next to Hasper. Once the table was set. Harvey and Colette came out with a meatloaf dish, a mash potato's dish, and gravy souse tray and a teapot of hot lemon tea. The dishes were already on the table as well as the tea cups. They all sat down and gave thanks for the food once ready. And when the food was all passed around the table and the hot tea was pored they began to eat their dinner.

"Oh Colette the meatloaf is wonderful as always." Harvey said after taking his first bite of it.

"Thank you dear. Clann, what do you both think of it?" She asked them.

Hasper looked up and smiled, "It's really tasty mamai, you know I always love your food no matter what."

"Is that so? Sounds like I have heard that somewhere before from someone else?" Looking over to her husband.

"But its true dear. We all love your food no matter what don't we Clann?" He explained.

"Yes aintin Colette your the best cook ever! I love your pies, your cookies, and cakes!" Rin said with glee.

Colette began to blush from all the complements but then realized her niece was only talking about her deserts and treats. She knew the child had a sweet tooth but boy she was going all out explaining what she loved from her making for the girl. "Go raibh maith agaibh that makes me happy." She said with a slime and blush.

After dinner they had some apple pie that Colette had made earlier that afternoon. And lets just say Rin enjoyed every bite of it! It was now just past 9 pm and it was time for the girls to head to bed. They went up stares Rin tried to tell everyone that she was a big lass and could stay up until midnight but she kept nodding off trying to watch a show with Hasper.

"It's time for bed Rin." Hasper said as she got Rin ready and helped her button her pajama top that still seemed a bit big for her. It was only because she was such a small child in the first place.

Rin was clearly tired since she kept nodding off and rabbilling her words when trying to talk to Hasper. "Hass...Sissy, Iz am a biiig girlz. I am not sleepy..." She declared.

"Is that so? Well if you don't go to bed in the next 5 minuets Saint Nick wont come for Christmas this year to your home. Do you want that to happen?" She asked putting her hands on her hips.

Rin's eyes widened and she gasped "NO! Never ever! I will go to bed right now." She said looking rather frantic more than anything else.

"Good girl." Hasper said as both she and Rin climbed into her full size bed and got under the big comforter. "Good night Rin." She said to her little cousin.

"Good night Hass-sissy." Rin said covering her mouth with a yawn. Her heavy lids closed and she drifted off to sleep.

************************************************************************************************************

Rin found herself walking in a very long dark hall way all alone. It was very scary she didn't dare to stop walking scared something might try to grab her from behind if she stopped. Just then she felt something staring at her but it felt like it was watching her from all around.

She finally spoke out. "H-hello? who's there?" She said in her little shaken Irish accent. Trying to sound brave. When she didn't get an answer she then felt like she was being ignored and when she was ignored no matter whom did that to her. She would become short tempered and become upset and rather hotheaded. She then began to get mad at whoever was looking at her. She then began to yell and could even hear her own voice echo. "Who are you--uuu--uuu?! Why don't you answer now--www--www?!"

She then felt a icy cold chill go down her spin as she heard a soft but chilly sounding voice. "Soon they will all gather."

Rin gulped but try to not panic she then asked the creepy voice, "Who?"

The voice spoke once more, "The 4 great hero's and us...the Nightmares..." Just then a pare of blood red eyes stood right in front of Rin clear as could be.

She saw this and screamed and ran the other direction calling out for Hasper. "Hass-sissy! Hass-sissy!!!" She then saw a great bright light in front of her she ran to it thinking it was her Hasper. When she opened her eyes she found herself sitting up and being held by Hasper in real life. She looked up and saw her looking down at her with a worried expression.

"Rin it's alright it was just a nightmare you were having." She said calmly. "Your awake now. Safe and sound."

Rin's eyes began to blur as she felt fresh hot tears come to her eyes. She began to cry as she put her face into Hasper's chest crying and she then began to talk. "Oh Hass-sissy it was such a scary Nightmare. A real Nightmare monster stood right in front of me. With big red eyes. He had a scary voice too! He was talking to me."

"It's alright Rin. Just calm down sweetie. What did this Nightmare say to you?" She asked wondering and not wanting her cousin to be scared any longer.

"It said...soon they will all gather, and I asked who? And then he said the 4 great hero's and us...the Nightmares." She then looked up at Hasper she seemed confused now but had stopped crying at least. "Who are the 4 hero's? Are they going to save us from the Nightmares?"

Hasper sighed and sat back then thought of telling Rin the story of the 4 hero's well of the short version at least. "Let me tell you a little story to help you go back to sleep okay. So listen closely lass.

A long time ago, when time was still young, there was great peace and prosperity throughout the kingdoms.  The future looked hopeful and bright.

But then that peaceful world shattered when creatures began to form out of the shadows of the night. Creatures so horrible…so terrifying…for they made even the bravest soul tremble in fear.  They were called the Nightmares.  The Nightmares invaded the lands and the Great War erupted between the realms of Light and Darkness.

It was dark times. For many years, the Nightmares destroyed many kingdoms, corrupting those who were easily subdue to its power and turning the light dwellers amongst one another.  Many had feared that it was the mark of the end and darkness will reign supreme.  But within these dark times, there was a shimmer of hope for the realm of light.

Four brave mortals, who resisted the darkness, rose up to defeat the Nightmares. They were called the Heroes of Light.  To aid them, they possessed four of the most powerful weapons.  Four swords that can control the four great elements: Air, Water, Earth and Fire.  With their swords in hand, they rally many mortals and waged a final battle against the Nightmares.   The battle was long and hard and many gave their lives to ensure the future for the realm of light.  With a great sacrifice, the four brave heroes defeated the Nightmares and send them back into the abyss from once they came.  At long last, the one hundred war had ended and there was great joy throughout the lands.

As the years passed…as the story of the Nightmares and the Heroes of Light became a mere fairy tale among the mortals …. Though the future remained unclear...if the Nightmares were to ever rise again, so will The Four Heroes of Light…so they can defeat the Darkness as they once did so long ago...

And that is the story or fairy tale of the 4 hero's and Nightmares Rin. So don't worry your little heart nothing more then a fairy tale." Hasper finished.

Rin sighed but felt a little better hearing an explanation, "I don't like how the ending is so mysterious but thank you for making me feel better. Oh and the last thing I saw in my bad ream. Was your bright light I ran right to it until I found you again. It made me feel safe." Rin said as Hasper tucked her in.

"I am glad I was able to help you feel better. After all your my little cousin and I love you. I would never want anything bad happening to you ever." She said.

"Me either! I love you too Hass-sissy!" Rin said as she hugged her older cousin once more before laying back down and closing her eyes.

Hasper smiled then did something her mother taught her but to never show anyone not even Rin. Since Rin was now asleep again she placed a magical protective charm over Rin's heart. She then whispered out loud, "Protect thy little one from all those that would cause her harm. Ta mo chroi istigh ionat." Just then a blueish light went into Rin's chest and disrepair within her small body. The charm would protect her for as long as she was alive and as long as Hasper was alive as well. Hasper then went back to sleep now knowing her little cousin would be save form any future bad dreams. And not just that no one could harm her in sertain ways.

This is a side story taking place before :iconTheJourenyoftheHeart: fanfic.
I also used her short story from her first prologue chapter that explains the 4 hero's of light and Nightmares. I hope you enjoy this chapter. Also at the end of the chapter I put down what the Irish Gaelic phrases mean that I used. :)

This chapter is good.  Just one thing:

...as the story of the Nightmares and the Heroes of Light became a mere fairy tale among the mortals

you don't necessary need this line.  I think we got the jest that its 'just' a fairy-tale.
